Facebook vs Apps

Published on October 17, 2011 by in Social Media

I updated this 2/14/12

Last year I listened in on a teleseminar regarding 5 ways to use the new Facebook updates on your Facebook Page. Great teleseminar and I learned much, got several great ideas and learned some perks.

One in particular new ‘perk’ (I wouldn’t call it a perk, but that is how it was referred to in the teleseminar) has to do with many of the apps we use to post updates to our status on Facebook. Which by the way is how many people use to update their statuses. Facebook late last year added a feature that can let people HIDE posts from the app like Hootsuite.

At first when I saw this I was a bit concerned because Hootsuite, especially, is used widely and other apps to post to our Facebook Page and personal site.  After looking it over I realized several things.

  1. I am unable to hide any apps that are sent to a Facebook Page
  2. I am able to hide apps that are sent to a Facebook personal page

Be careful when you are considering hiding any app on Facebook.  If you know a friend that posts via Hootsuite or Twitter or another app then you may not want to ‘hide’ that app.

Of course once you hide you can always unhide – thankfully Facebook did add that in there.
